Our train journey! 19.3.25
We had wonderful day travelling by train and playing on the beach today! Everyone listened so carefully and made us very proud. Ellie commented we were one of the best behaved groups they've ever taken on the train!
It was fantastic to see how much the children had remembered from their safety workshop in school yesterday. They all boarded the train safely, remembering to take a big step over the gap and to wait behind the yellow line until the train stopped and the doors opened. Once aboard, everyone sat beautifully in their seats and enjoyed looking out of the big windows. Ellie provided Eye Spy games to play during the journey which the children loved. We spotted lots of fields, trees, horses, sheep, tractors as well as cars on the road. It was especially exciting whizzing through the dark tunnels! When we arrived at Weymouth the children safely and calmly stepped off the train, walking sensibly with their partner down to the beach. We use the pedestrian crossings, waiting for the green light to show and even walked down the steps and under the subway tunnel!
Once at the beach we enjoyed a carousel of activities, staying in small groups with our adults and moving to the next activity when we heard the whistle. We played sand races, created pictures in the sand, built sand castles and played hide and seek with shells/golden pirate coins in the sand. Lots of sandy beach fun!
We then had our packed lunches and a little run around play before heading back to catch our train back to Dorchester. Ellie stamped each of our special train tickets as a memento of our trip out and gave us each a special new book to take home to help us remember all about how to keep safe on the train. We finished our day at the library, sitting cosy together and reading our new story book gifted by Platform Rail 'Arlo's Adventures'.
What a wonderful day and a fantastic learning experience. I'm sure the children will have some special memories from the day, especially for those who went on their very first train journey with us today!
