Come and find out about our work with the Christian charity Heart Response

During the Summer Term we spent a week working with Tish (the lady who set up the charity we work with Heart Response). This charity helps orphans and children who live in poverty in Romania. The week started with an introductory Collective Worship, led by Tish, to explain in more detail about Romania and what she does.

This started a whole week of amazing activities that not only further our Romanian knowledge but enabled us to contribute to make a difference to these children's lives. Activities involved immersing ourselves in Romanian traditions such as egg art, spoon design art and making and tasting Romanian biscuits. We played Romanian games and learnt some of the language.

We made the children who live in the Romanian orphanage some bunting that they can hang in their rooms and they recorded a song for us and in return we recorded us singing some of our favourite songs for them. The older children have also recorded adverts for Tish's website Heat Response.

The highlight of the week was on Friday when we became Romanian children for the day. We learnt how it feels to live in one of the gypsy camps and feel hungry, sleep on the hard floor and survive with hardly anything. We then pretended we were visiting on e of Heart Responses feeding programmes and took part in the Christian teaching and bible craft and then ate some Romanian soup that Mrs Cresswell cooked for us. It was a very pain vegetable soup (a Romanian recipe) and some children really loved it which was very exciting!! In the afternoon we created a human Romanian flag using our bodies.

It has been such an informative and enjoyable week, made even better because we have been able to make things for the orphans and given then recordings of us speaking and singing to them. It is good to be able to make a difference, no matter how small to these children's lives.

A positive, purposeful and enthusiastic atmosphere
