Principles
The Cerne Abbas CE VC First School Governing Body requires that children at the school wear our distinctive school uniform. The purpose of the uniform is to ensure children wear practical and appropriate clothes for the range of activities they need to take part in at school, to provide uniformity and to give the children a sense of belonging to our unique community.
We rely on parents and carers to cooperate with governors and staff by following the uniform policy and sending their children to school wearing appropriate clothing. We encourage parents and carers to contact the school if they are unsure about any aspect of the policy or if they have difficulty abiding by it for any reason.
Aims
Our policy is based on the belief that a school uniform:
• promotes a sense of pride in our school
• engenders a feeling of belonging
• is practical and distinctive
• identifies the children with our school
• is not distracting in class
• makes children feel equal to one another in terms of appearance
• reflects the sense both of community and of diversity that the school takes pride in
• is regarded as suitable, and good value for money, by most parents
The uniform for Reception to Year 4 is as follows:
Grey or dark blue trousers or shorts
Dark Blue skirt/pinafore dress
Blue checked summer dress
Yellow Cerne Abbas polo shirt **
Blue Cerne Abbas school sweatshirt / cardigan**
White/dark blue or grey socks or tights
Black shoes (plain and flat)
PE Kit
Dark blue T-Shirt (Optional brand t-shirt**)
Navy PE shorts

If your child attends Ducklings they have the option of a lighter blue sweatshirt with a logo that includes ducklings on it**. We would prefer branded clothes but generic is also acceptable.

Jewellery and Headwear
Children should not wear jewellery to school. An exception will be made for pierced ears (small studs only may be worn for safety reasons) and if the jewellery is of a religious or medical significance. Please see your child’s class teacher if this is the case.
Children with long hair should wear it tied or clipped back for school. Hair accessories should be discreet and ideally in school colours.
All clothing should be clearly labelled with the child’s name. The school cannot accept responsibility for any lost items.
Labels can be ordered from http://www.mynametags.com/ using school id 34979
Equalities
All children have equal access to wearing school uniform regardless of their culture, race, religion, gender, disability or ability. We ensure that the set uniform respects other policies such as our Equalities Policy and allows for individual sets of circumstances of all groups and individuals.
Second Hand School Uniform
The school has a supply of good quality, second hand school uniform. Should you wish to take advantage of this please contact the school office.
