Visit to Shire Hall 1.3.23

This morning we went on the bus to Shire Hall in Dorchester! We met Anne and Lesley who told us the story of the Gingerbread Man. We helped to tell the story, joining in and singing with the verse 'run, run, as fast as we can!'. We then created 'Wanted' posters to help us identify the missing gingerbread man! We used colouring pencils and coloured collage pieces to create our pictures. (The children have brought them home to show you!)
We then set off on a hunt around the museum in small groups looking for signs of the missing gingerbread man! Each room in the museum had different clues about who had been chasing him. There was a mask so we could dress up and think about what they might be saying! The clues led us through the dark cells and into the courthouse!
When we got back to the learning room Anne finished telling us the story and we watched as the sneaky fox puppet helped the gingerbread man part way across the river before gobbling him all up!!
We then made our own character masks and gingerbread 'biscuits' using the gingerbread scented play dough!
It was lots of fun! Thank you very much to our helpers. The children had a fantastic time on their gingerbread man adventure today!
When we got back to school the children talked about their favourite activities and the best part of the trip! They said their favourite parts were making masks, playing I spy on the bus, going on the hunt for the gingerbread man, being Rufus the dog and making gingerbread with the playdough.

A positive, purposeful and enthusiastic atmosphere
