The Cerne Valley Christmas Festival Christmas 2014 – Christmas Street Fayre
Sat 06 Dec 2014The Cerne Valley Festival, Christmas 2014 (sometimes known as the Cerne Abbas Christmas Street Fayre) is on Saturday 6th December 2014. The parents and children of Cerne Abbas First School will have a stall this year raising money for our amazing children and their very special school. We will be making and selling homemade sweet and savoury treats, jams and crafts. Also, during 'Fun on Friday', the children will be creating a crafty Christmas treasure for their parents or grandparents to buy. So we are asking whether you can create something for our stall. Maybe some bags of flapjack or shortbread, a jar of jam, a crochet blanket, a pin cushion, homemade soap, a tray of Christmas fudge, an apple pie, a bottle of homemade wine, some
gingerbread men....have some fun with it.....tis the season to be jolly after all! No donation will be too big or small.
Help is needed to help set up and sell on the day....no heavy lifting and short shifts and also lots of smiling will be required!
If you have any questions please ask Katy Wall (red specs) in the playground -

Basketball Festival
Wed 26 Nov 2014We arrived for our much anticipated Basketball Festival at St Osmunds Middle School where we met our Year 7 team leader, Matt. He warmed us up before we had a pre-festival talk given by organiser Mr Fisk. Then we made our way to our first game against St Mary’s Catholic and with some excellent supply from Angus,Toby powered through and scored a hat trick with no reply, a superb start, 3-0. Next up was our own federated School, Winterbourne Abbas, we dominated the early stages and with some lovely skills from a light footed George, we deservedly went ahead, then they scored to make it 1-1, Freya then released George down the wing with a quick throw and he celebrated with style after getting his second in the game, but in the dying seconds Winterbourne broke free and scored their second to make it a draw, 2-2. Milborne Port were our next opponents, we started slowly and fell behind but with our determined spirit we fought back when Lily confidently scored to draw level and after George was taken off with an injury, Toby arrived right on cue to score the winner, 2-1. Then we played Damers, these were the 2 strongest teams and proved to be a cracker of a game with many chances but Damers could not score against our resolute defence of Rhys and Eden, Freya then came into her own and shot a quick double putting us in charge with Toby finishing it off to make it 3-0. Our rest game came after this and we took in fluids and our snacks to replenish our energy. Our last game was against Charminster, with everyone a little nervous we played the game with the same energy and with Connor supplying the balls upto George for his 3rd and Toby for 2 more we finished winning in style 3-0. Everyone thanked the Year 7 students for the fantastic leadership skills and after all the certificates were handed out we were told the results. In 3rd place was Winterbourne, 2nd was Damers and 1st was Cerne Abbas!
WE HAD WON!!
Our children showed us once again how they worked together as a team, co-operatively, communicated well with each other and how confident they were to show everyone the skills they had learnt in PE. Mrs Price and Miss Nottley were so proud of them, Miss Nottley had waited over 13 years to have a winning team and it was worth the wait!!
