Our visit from 2 Muslims Ladies
Mon 09 Feb 2026Today we had a visit from 2 Muslim ladies called Saima and Calleja. They told us about Ramadan and the 5 pillars of Isalm. The children also tried on head scarfs, prayer hats, jewellery. We also tried dates, which is the first food they eat after fasting at Ramadan and wrote our names in Arabic. The children were able to touch the Quran and a prayer mat. It was a very good learning experience.

National Trust Day with local artist Sasha Constable
Wed 14 Jan 2026The National Trust are in the process of buying the land around the Cerne Giant. They came into school to work alongside local artist Sasha Constable and an ecologist with our children. The day involved painting rare butterflies that have been seen around the giant, taking a walk to the giant, thinking about the hill, why it’s special and what habitats it hosts and making butterfly kites. The children’s work will be used as part of the consultation process where decisions will be made about what to do with the land. We are very excited to be helping at the start of this new exciting project.

Remembrance Day
Sun 16 Nov 2025Remembrance Day
It was lovely to join our community with the 2 minutes silence on Remembrance Day. The children stood in silence whilst we remembered all those who have fought for our country. They were incredibly respectful and we were very proud to be part of this. Two children laid a wreath at the cenotaph.

Official Grand Opening of our new Building
Mon 07 Jul 2025This morning we had the Official Opening of our new LRC by HM Lord Lieutenant of Dorset. It was attended by the whole school, governors, parents, representatives from the Local Authority as well as the team of builders from the construction company who completed the build.
Ollie, from Year 4, read aloud a special piece he had written about the new classroom and we had an address from the HM Lord Lieutenant. We then counted to 7 and the Lieutenant cut the red ribbon on the classroom door! It is very exciting that the new classroom is now officially open! We look forward to showing you all around.
We're now looking forward to our official opening for members of the community tomorrow evening. -

Easter Bonnet Parade
Sat 05 Apr 2025Yesterday we had our traditional Easter Bonnet parade around our village. Our parent group (FOCAS) paid for every child to make their own bonnet and at 2pm, in the sunshine and wind we paraded around the village. Jonathan, our vicar, joined us and at the end praised the effort of everyone. Dexter's Grandma knitted everyone a rabbit with a chocolate egg inside because we are all winners. It was a lovely end to the term.

Author and Storyteller Chris Connaughton
Fri 21 Mar 2025This morning we were visited by Chris Connaughton who is an actor, playwright, author and storyteller. Chris started the day with the whole school, telling us that when he was a child he was very shy but stories, acting and performing helped him to find his voice and to feel more confident. He taught us to take a deep breath and use big and loud voices when speaking or performing to a group.
In our classroom, Chris told the story of 'Little Red Riding Hood' without a book or pictures. He told us his own version of the story, adding in extra details and his own ending where Granny was found hidden in the wardrobe and the wolf was scared away! He also retold the story of Rumpelstiltskin with the help of the children who joined in with the related refrains. The children love listening to Chris as he's so inspiring and engaging. He taught the children some tongue twisters which helped to warm up their voices. He inspired the children's imaginations and engaged them in his comical and exciting re-telling...their faces show it all! They loved every moment. Thank you, Chris! -
Pancake Day
Mon 10 Mar 2025We had a lovely pancake celebration on Shrove Tuesday. All of the children made their batter for pancakes and then cooked their pancake. We put lemon and honey on them and they were delicious. We also took part in pancake races and flipping pancake competitions. It was such great fun. The sun shone on our fun afternoon which topped off the experience.
A positive, purposeful and enthusiastic atmosphere
