  • Milborne St Andrew Football Festival

    Thu 27 Mar 2014
On arrival we changed into our football boots ready for an afternoon of football, armed with our lucky mascot from Lucy, first up were The Prince of Wales School and with great defending from Amelia and Archie and great saves from Daniel P in goal, we deservedly drew this game 0-0, Thomas had our best chance in the game with a Beckham like shot from near the half way line. Broadmayne School were up next with a familiar face in their line up, Joe Arthy, we dominated this game and had several goalmouth scrambles with Olly running the show from midfield but just couldn't force the ball home, we then let in a breakaway goal and lost 1-0. We played the hosts Milborne School in our 3rd game, George played his best game yet and went on an amazing solo run and shot just wide and then not long after Toby sent in a powerful shot which cannoned back off the post! We were then hit with an unlucky goal that squirmed underneath the hands of our goalie and lost narrowly 1-0. After some well earned orange squash, biscuits and cake (kindly purchased by Mrs Horsington) we played St Mary's School and were under pressure straight away and went down to an early goal, however we then counter attacked ourselves and Thomas was sent through by a superb ball from Katie to go one on one with their keeper and without a fantastic save we would have levelled the score, Katie also defended with determined tenacity but was unable to keep out another shot and we lost 2-0. Our final game was against Winterborne School, with Hannah and Eden defending for their lives that left Toby and George to attack with both going close but again drawing a blank, 0-0. Everyone enjoyed playing and went home with smiles on their faces, Mrs Price and Miss Nottley were proud at how courteous, caring and confident they all were. Special mentions to Mrs Horsington for transporting to and from school and Mr & Mrs Beresford and Toby's grandparents, huge thank you to you all for coming to support the team.

  • Pre-Ofsted Evaluation Report.

    Mon 24 Mar 2014
At Cerne VC CE First School we very much value supportive and rigorous external verification to improve our practice and ultimately outcomes for children.

We were very pleased to invite Deborah Zachory, an experienced and fully qualified Ofsted inspector, to our school for two full days. We asked Deborah to carry out a pre-Ofsted inspection against the new inspection framework, validate and challenge the school's self evaluation, prior to Federation with Winterbourne Valley VA CE First School in September.

The reports are attached under the About Us - Key Information - Our Evaluation section on the Home page.

We would very much like to thank Deborah for a very intense, thorough and challenging two days that have led to purposeful and meaningful development points.

  • Damers Football Tournament

    Tue 18 Mar 2014
Our team arrived eager and ready to play, with this being the first tournament for most of them. After warming up there was a group photo with the other teams taking part, Prince of Wales School and Damers School. Then we were off, our first match was against Damers Yellow, after a slow start with us finding our feet, we defended really well with Captain Archie leading the way and Daniel making some excellent saves in goal, but we let in a goal in the last minute, losing 1-0. Our second game was against Damers Blue, this one we went down to an early goal, however this did not get us down and we attacked down the wings with Freya and Harriet and were unlucky not to get an equalizer. Next up was Damers Red, this was by far our better game with Mason and Lulu determined not to let anything through their defence, however we let in a goal after Connor had superbly saved a shot but it unfortunately rebounded off one of their players straight back into the net, this made us more determined and between Angus and Katie we attacked with gusto and finally got the goal we deserved when Katie surged forward and slotted the ball past their keeper with a fantastic shot, we celebrated with the loudest cheer of the afternoon and Katie and a huge smile on her face, we drew that game 1-1. Lastly we played the Prince of Wales School, this was our hardest game, but we held our own for the first 5 minutes with some tough tackling from Lily, but we let 2 goals in in a minute and lost the game 2-0. Then after a well earned biscuit and some juice we headed back. Our players did the school proud and every single one enjoyed the afternoon and they were talking about the matches all the way back to school, with Mrs Price and Miss Nottley leaving with very sore throats from all the cheering!

  • Year 4 Orienteering at DMS

    Wed 12 Mar 2014
Abbey Class Year 4's arrived eagerly and after being given a quick tour of the school, they were off! They had to first find pictures from photos around the school, then race back to show the year 7 leaders where abouts the photo was taken on the orienteering map of the school. They used their observation skills and co-operation to find as many as they could. After a quick pit stop their next task was punch orienteering, each pair was given a sheet with a list of numbers which they had to locate on the map, find the clip and punch the pattern next to the number. Off they raced with renewed energy and arrived back with many fulfilled sheets, congratulations to Amelia and Hannah who completed the most! With lots of red faces and smiles,  Mrs Price and Miss Nottley were exhausted just watching them! They ended their enjoyable morning by thanking the year 7 leaders, Levi Dailey and Mr Duffy with an ear-piercing thank you. The children did our school proud and they were all confident, courteous and communicative with each other and Winterborne Abbas, making them a credit to Cerne Abbas First School.
