  • Orienteering at DMS

    Wed 16 Mar 2016

Year 4's spent a fun morning at DMS taking part in orienteering, after being given a quick tour of the school, they were off! They were split into pairs with Winterbourne Valley First School and had to first find pictures from photos around the school, then race back to show the year 8 leaders where abouts the photo was taken on the orienteering map of the school. They used their observation skills, communication and were very co-operative to find as many as they could. After a quick pit stop their next task was punch orienteering, each pair was given a sheet with a list of numbers which they had to locate on the map, find the clip and punch the pattern next to the number. Off they raced with renewed energy and arrived back with many fulfilled sheets, Mrs Price and Miss Nottley were exhausted just watching them! They ended their enjoyable morning by thanking the year 8 leaders and Mr Treble. The children did our school proud and they were all confident, courteous, co-operative and communicative with each other and  their new friends from Winterborne Valley, making them a credit to Cerne Abbas First School.

  • Milborne Football Festival

    Tue 08 Mar 2016

As always our team had eagerly awaited this afternoon, many not having played in any competitions so far, on arrival we had our lunch and got ourselves warmed up for our first game.

We played Broadmayne first and were a little slow to get into the game and found us 3 nil down from some great strikes before we knew it, Clayton did relieve the pressure with a couple good runs in attack but to no joy. Our next game was Charminster, we were unlucky in this game, only drawing 0-0, Jack had several shots and Max was tenacious in midfield, all over the place. Cheselbourne were up next and with some great defending from Will and Ellie kept this game at 0-0, Vaila also came into her own in midfield and ran her socks off, we then played the match of our lives against a strong St Mary's team and just lost out to the last kick of the game, 2-1, however Owen superbly scored our only goal in this game, finding the net against a keeper signed on by Bournemouth!! Finally we played Winterbourne and with Honor in goal and some superb defending by Silas we nearly snatched the points with a fine shot by Oliver.

Once again the children did us proud and they all left with smiles on their faces, we wold like to thank Mrs Tite, Mrs Moore, Mr Horsington and Mr Fountain for their support in the cold and sometimes wet weather, was much appreciated.

A positive, purposeful and enthusiastic atmosphere
