  • Netball Tournament

    Fri 27 Jun 2014
Some of the Year 3 & 4's took place in the netball tournament at Winterbourne
Valley School on Saturday 28th July.
Despite a poor weather forecast, it turned into a beautiful and very hot
    day.

The tournament was well attended with 6 teams taking place.

Cerne got off to a slow start but as each match progressed the team work
increased and the standard of netball improved, with some great marking and
    shooting.

Hannah and Freya made an effective team in defence against difficult opponents
and Toby and Thomas worked well as goal scorers.

The constant change of positions gave the children a great opportunity to play
all five positions but did cause the watching supporters a moment of worry when
Angus who had just played goal shooter and was now goal keeper very nearly
    scored an "own" goal.

The team won 2 matches, drew 1 and lost 2 - losing out to the teams who came
    first and second overall.

The whole group thoroughly enjoyed their afternoon and they all played to the
best of their abilities, showing how co-operative they could be and being conscientious.
  • Charminster Football Tournament

    Charminster Football Tournament

Once again all the children were eager to play and we had difficulty picking our team, those who were chosen played with the same sportsmanship and fairness that we see every time from our children. Our first game was against Manor Park, the early exchanges saw Daniel showing good hands in his area and Katie showing her attacking skills and going close with 2 shots that had ricochet off the defenders. Next was Broadmayne and after a spectacular goal that rifled into the net from Toby we looked like we may have a well earned victory, only for it to be snatched away in the dying moments for another draw, 1-1. Third up was our close rivals Winterbourne, this was a much tighter game with Thomas marshalling the defense well with Eden and us thoroughly deserving the 0-0 draw. Our last game was up against the strongest team in our half, Angus was magnificent in goal keeping them down to only 2 goals, and he was helped by excellent defending from Archie and the whole team, George nearly scoring with a jinx down the wing going past 3 players to putting the ball just wide of the post.  We would like to thank all parents who came to cheer on the team, especially Martha and Silas who were our mascots. Once again all the “C’s” were shown throughout by everyone, you made us proud again!

  • Kwik Cricket!

    Thu 12 Jun 2014
Year 1/2 took part in a Kwik Cricket festival at DMS organised by Mr Brown, when we arrived we were split up and took part in different stations, these included catching, throwing, co-ordination and agility and they were run by year DMS sports leaders. After this we played mini Kwik Cricket games, our first game was against Damers which we lost narrowly, next we played Prince of Wales and with our confidence taken from the first game and learning some new tactics, we fielded really well and used out throwing practice to keep them to a low score, then batted well to win the game. Our final game was from our close rivals Winterbourne Abbas, the batting was exceptional from both teams and very competitive but we managed to win this game too and eventually came second, a huge cheer from our kids when they heard this made the day and all of them were co-operative, conscientious and most of all very confident! We all left totally exhausted but with smiles on our faces. The children then wrote about the day and said they felt nervous at the start, had made new friends, said it was a lot of fun and it was the best day ever!
