An introduction to Carnival 12.06.14

Trendle Class have had a busy week with the start of their new topic about 'Carnival'. On Tuesday, as part of a whole-school Learning Capture, our class took part in a fantastic Latin-American dance experience where we learnt some basic Mambo dance steps with Holly from 'Primary Workshops for Schools'.The children concentrated extremely well, showing great levels of rhythm and co-ordination, and they were able to put together a short dance to perform for parents and the rest of the school later in the afternoon. Tomorrow, the children will also be taking part in a drumming workshop.

In the classroom, we have begun designing and making masks, headdresses and maracas for our Carnival Parade extravaganza towards the end of the term.We have also been looking ahead to the start of the World Cup with some Maths problem-solving activties; sorting and categorising flags of the final 32 countries, and working out possible combinations of football kit colours.

A positive, purposeful and enthusiastic atmosphere
