Week 8 03.11.16 First week back

Week 8 03.11.16 First week back!

I hope everyone had a brilliant half term and it was wonderful to hear about all the exciting places you visited :)

We have loads of exciting events coming up in Abbey Class across a wide range of areas. Some of these include various writing events, Tag Rugby festival, nativity performance rehearsals, Roman themed day (see parents letter) and our Remembrance service to name a few.

In terms of the learning in class, we have started a new focus in Literacy (Wind and the Willows) and started to learn about the key principles of division in Maths. Our new topic is the Romans and our new sport in PE is Basketball. For extra detail about Abbey Class and the specific learning for this half term please see the learning outline (attached onto your parent letter).

Mathletics is set up and all of the children have been assigned specific maths learning. This will change weekly. Spellings will go out on Friday 4th November to be learnt for Thursday 10th November. Keep reading and practicing your times tables at home. This is also a reminder to keep reading at home. The more you can do the better. Read a wide range of material (fiction, non-fiction, comics, newspapers etc.). I will be continuing to monitor the level of reading in the class and this half term will see a big push in increasing our weekly reading duration.

Just a reminder about our 'Roman themed day' on Wednesday 16th November. See the parents letter for more detail or come and speak to me.

Hope everyone has had a good first week back. Not long till Christmas now!

Many thanks,

Mr Mitchem.

A positive, purposeful and enthusiastic atmosphere
