Values Week 19.04.13

Giant Class have been very busy this week! It has been Values Week - a whole school week to explore and learn more about our values, other people's values and why they are important.
On Monday we enjoyed a performance from 'Open the book' which lead us learn the story of The Good Samaritan. Giant Class acted out the story and then wrote a storyboard of the story.
On Tuesday in Giant Class we wrote prayers to God to thank him for the things we appreciate in life. We will put these prayers in the prayer box so the children can read them out during worship. In the afternoon we had a cross-school learning challenge to make a game which helped to develop a C Value. This was a wonderful afternoon and some great games were invented!
On Wednesday we had visits from some pupils from Dorchester Middle School who shared their Modern Moral Tales with us and helped us to create our own. One group chose to write a tale about being confident when starting a new school and the other group chose to write about being conscientious when learning to read. They all worked very well together to plan, act out and then write their modern moral tale.
On Thursday we had a very interesting and thought-provoking day with three visitors all from different faiths/non-faiths. The children learnt that everyone in the world has values even though these may be different.

Friday has been a fantastic end to Values Week as we were visited by a Christian Magician which the children thoroughly enjoyed and it taught them some important messages about God.
Throughout the week we have been creating 'Value Creations' where we have made representations of a particular value which the children chose themselves.

We look forward to starting our new topic next week which is 'Under the Sea'.

A positive, purposeful and enthusiastic atmosphere
