Finding out about the Celts 19.09.13

This week Trendle Class have enjoyed finding out more about the Celts. We have started making models of Celtic roundhouses and researching more about them using the internet in our computer session. There is lots of interesting information for the children to share with you on the www.woodlands-junior.kent.sch.uk/ website about roundhouses and lots of other aspects of Celtic life. We are also planning to investigate the origins of tartan and design some of our own, so if anyone has a family tartan we would love to share samples, pictures, family origins etc.

Linking our learning on instruction texts, we have followed instructions to make Celtic knot bookmarks and we have then written our own sets of instructions for other people to follow. We will continue with this learning next week when we will write our own instructions for making our model roundhouses.

Next week we will also welcome Mr Rothman from Tress for Dorset who will take us on a walk around Cerne to look for seeds and berries. The Year One children will then plant a selection of these and they will nurture them through to Year 4. When they leave the school their tree will be planted in the park as a permanent memorial of their time at Cerne Abbas First School.

A positive, purposeful and enthusiastic atmosphere
