Beginning festivities! 6.12.19

Beginning festivities! 6.12.19

This week we have been feeling very festive and getting excited about Christmas! We have been opening the doors on our advent calendar and counting the sleeps until Father Christmas visits on his sleigh! We’ve also had a new addition to our classroom, a gift from the North Pole! Our very own elf, Eric! He has been getting up to all sorts of mischief in our classroom! He’s been getting tangled in tinsel, eating chocolate coins and reading stories to our toys! Eric left us a letter written by Father Christmas!! He asked us to write our own letters and send them in the post!

We used writing frames to write our own letters to send to the North Pole! The Giant children started their letter with ‘To Santa’, using the word wall to help spell tricky words and using Fred fingers to help segment the sounds to write the words. They explained that they had been very good this year and said thank you for sending our elf, Eric. They then wrote their wish list just incase Santa has room on his sleigh! The Ducklings signed their letter with their name and told him how old they are. They also drew a picture to send with their letter.

When our letters were finished we folded them and out them into addressed envelopes, adding a stamp and posting them in the postbox! Eric says that if Santa has time he will reply to our letters!

On Wednesday it was our school ‘Reflective Day’. We read the Christmas story from the bible and set up a Christmas nativity scene in our classroom. We also dressed up as different characters in the story, pretending to be Mary and Joseph looking after baby Jesus in the stable.  In the afternoon, the reception children joined KS1 on a trip to visit the United Church in Dorchester for the 'Journey to a Stable' experience. We travelled around 7 different interactive stations, learning a little more about a particular part/person in the christmas story. We carried our own paper bags, collecting small objects on our way around. Hopefully these bags will be a source of conversation and you can share some of their learning from this afternoon!

On Thursday we put up our class Christmas tree! We had lots of fun adding the tinsel, lights and Christmas decorations to the tree! We have been singing lots of Christmas songs and carols ready for when we open the Cerne Abbas Christmas Fair on Saturday! We hope to see you all there!
