    Thu 18 Jun 2015
What a fabulous afternoon we had watching the children enjoying the round robin then giving it their all in their various races, huge thanks to Mr Dailey and the Year 8 Sports Leaders from DMS, seeing some familiar faces helping made the day and everyone helped to make the day run smoothly, also a thank you to Tesco's for supplying us with water bottles, we were very luck to have the sun shine all afternoon so your kind refreshments were appreciated. Congratulations to the Red Team for winning this year and lastly thank you to all the parents/family/carers who came and supported us.
  • Global Arts Week

    Fri 12 Jun 2015

Week beginning 22nd June will be a Global Arts week. We will be learning about artists from around the world and using their art to inspire our own art work. We will also have an artist in for two mornings to create a landscape of Cerne out of felt. For this we will need all reception and Trendle to bring in a hand towel  in a named plastic bag.

To pay for materials we also ask if each child brings in a donation of a pound to cover the cost. We would be very grateful if you could bring this in as soon as possible so that we may get the resources in time.

On the Wednesday, after picking the children up from school we invite you to walk down the school corridor and view our art instillation which will transport you to another continent.

  • Mayfair

    Fri 22 May 2015

Congratulations to everyone regarding the Mayfair on Saturday – an incredible £1772.78 was raised.

Massive thanks go to Katy Wall for organising this wonderful event (with help from Janine Ryan and many others).  Thank you to everyone who worked tirelessly through the day to make this such a successful fundraiser.  We so appreciate how hard everyone worked.

We will let you know in due course what the money will be spent on to enhance your children’s education.  Over the last year FOCAS have funded learning captures in all classes and provided new books for home reading for the children.

On Wednesday 20th May the whole school will be spending a day learning together across the classes about Maths.  You are invited to join us at 2.00 pm to enjoy some maths games that the children will have made during the day.  We look forward to seeing you then.

  • Send My Friend to School

    Mon 18 May 2015

We are supporting the Send My Friend to School campaign. 2015 is a significant year because world leaders said that all children would be in school by this year but still 58 million are not. In September the leaders of the world are meeting together and they will discuss this issue. We have all written letters to David Cameron and suggested things that we would do to help get all children to school. In June Daniel and Honor will go to London's houses of Parliament to give them our letters with the other DASP schools.

Today we received the DASP box from Piddlevalley First school which contains all of the letters to David Cameron and the MP's and added ours. Tomorrow we will take the box to  Charminster First school.

We also sang Be Bold Be strong as part of the ceremony. Go to your child's Class page to listen to song.

  • MayFair 2015

    Sat 16 May 2015

WE DESPERATELY NEED HELPERS FOR THE MAYFAIR WHICH IS OUR MAJOR SCHOOL FUNDRAISER.  We rely on the FOCAS funds to enhance your children’s learning in school and to this end we rely heavily on the generosity of parents and the community to help make this a very successful fundraiser.  So we are asking for your support in contributing goodies for the stalls, selling raffle tickets and donating prizes in exchange for a Crazy Hair day  and ‘Dress as your Hero’  or ‘Dress Down’ day for the tombola stalls.

Our grateful thanks go to Katy Wall and Janine Ryan for organising the whole event .

To reduce production costs Rachel  Guest  has designed personal raffle tickets at £1 each – These will be sent out next week we would be grateful if you could sell as many as  possible.

We desperately need parents to help run the stalls, and parents to organise the teas and cakes.

    • to run stalls.

Please pop in and see Alex if you are happy to help

    DASP Computing Kidsmeet

Today 4 children from Abbey Class, as well as Mrs Horwood and Miss Cook, went to St. Osmund's Middle School to meet other pupils from other DASP schools and to share what they have been learning in Computing. We shared our learning about programming on 'Scratch'. We also saw other children's learning which we found really exciting. Our favourite things we saw were:

    • A 3D Printer
    • Kodu Coding
    • Dash and Dot Robots
    • Robot Tanks
    • A Blue Screen APP
    • Lego WeGo!
    • Hopscotch

We had a marvellous day filled with fun, learning and play!

    Vaila, Tom, Jack and Ellie

Miss Cook and Mrs Horwood were very proud of the children from Cerne Abbas School as they were all of our values, especially courteous and confident.

  • Zumba day!

    Thu 26 Mar 2015

Today we enjoyed a wonderful day of Zumba! Becky came into school and took each class teaching them games to warm up and then routines to great funky music. All the children had smiles on their faces and behaved courteously and confident while learning the new routines, they showed great energy, style and dance moves throughout all sessions and we even saw teachers and TA's joining in! We would all like to thank Becky for making the day fun, energetic and enjoyable, we all loved it!

  • Orienteering

    Wed 18 Mar 2015

Year 4's spent a fun morning at DMS taking part in orienteering, after being given a quick tour of the school, they were off! They had to first find pictures from photos around the school, then race back to show the year 7 leaders where abouts the photo was taken on the orienteering map of the school. They used their observation skills and co-operation to find as many as they could. After a quick pit stop their next task was punch orienteering, each pair was given a sheet with a list of numbers which they had to locate on the map, find the clip and punch the pattern next to the number. Off they raced with renewed energy and arrived back with many fulfilled sheets, congratulations to Amelia and Hannah who completed the most! With lots of red faces and smiles,  Mrs Price and Miss Nottley were exhausted just watching them! They ended their enjoyable morning by thanking the year 7 leaders, Levi Dailey and Mr Treble. The children did our school proud and they were all confident, courteous and communicative with each other and Winterborne Abbas, making them a credit to Cerne Abbas First School.

A positive, purposeful and enthusiastic atmosphere
