Cerne Abbas Village Fête
Sat 04 Jul 2015- Calling all Knights, Lords, Ladies, Princesses and Serfs!
Janine Ryan is helping to organise the church fete which this year is recognising the 800th anniversary of the Magna Carta.
We would love to see as many children (and grown-ups!) in medieval fancy dress. It can be as fancy or as simple as you like (a tabard over clothing with a belt for example).
There will be a procession starting at the school playing field at 1.20pm to walk to the vicarage gardens and be the official openers of the fête. (Please note this is not a school run activity and the children will be your responsibility).
All children participating will be entered into a prize draw.
The school have also been asked to once again run the popular fruit tombola and donations of exotic fruits e.g. pineapples, mangos, kiwis will be requested during the week beginning Monday 29th June. More details to follow nearer the time.

St. Mary's Charminter Football Tournament
Wed 01 Jul 2015Everyone arrived at St. Mary’s Charminster First School for their annual Football Tournament where we were split into two groups where we each play the other teams, with the top two teams progressing to the semi-finals. We played some great football against Winterbourne Abbas, Damers “A”, Manor Park “A” and St Mary’s Charminster “B” scoring 12 goals between Toby, George and Rhys to top our group without losing a single game. We showed great team work, some wonderful defensive and goalkeeping displays along with some jinking solo runs. This guaranteed us top spot and a semi-final against Damers “B”. Again we showed how well we worked as a team and after a very tense opening 3 minutes we broke the deadlock with 2 quick goals and went on to win 3-1 comfortably. Our final match was against Damers “A” but unfortunately we ran out of steam in this game and couldn’t repeat what we had done in our group game against them and lost 3-1. When the final whistle went and through our own personal disappointment all our children went to shake hands with the winners and congratulated them. Once again all our team showed what a credit to our school they are and we were all very proud of them. We would like to thank all parents who took their children and supported us that evening, couldn’t do it without this!

Global Arts Week
Fri 12 Jun 2015Week beginning 22nd June will be a Global Arts week. We will be learning about artists from around the world and using their art to inspire our own art work. We will also have an artist in for two mornings to create a landscape of Cerne out of felt. For this we will need all reception and Trendle to bring in a hand towel in a named plastic bag.
To pay for materials we also ask if each child brings in a donation of a pound to cover the cost. We would be very grateful if you could bring this in as soon as possible so that we may get the resources in time.
On the Wednesday, after picking the children up from school we invite you to walk down the school corridor and view our art instillation which will transport you to another continent.

Send My Friend to School
Mon 18 May 2015We are supporting the Send My Friend to School campaign. 2015 is a significant year because world leaders said that all children would be in school by this year but still 58 million are not. In September the leaders of the world are meeting together and they will discuss this issue. We have all written letters to David Cameron and suggested things that we would do to help get all children to school. In June Daniel and Honor will go to London's houses of Parliament to give them our letters with the other DASP schools.
Today we received the DASP box from Piddlevalley First school which contains all of the letters to David Cameron and the MP's and added ours. Tomorrow we will take the box to Charminster First school.
We also sang Be Bold Be strong as part of the ceremony. Go to your child's Class page to listen to song.

Our grateful thanks go to Katy Wall and Janine Ryan for organising the whole event .
To reduce production costs Rachel Guest has designed personal raffle tickets at £1 each – These will be sent out next week we would be grateful if you could sell as many as possible.
