  • Inter Multi Skills at DMS

    Tue 19 Nov 2013
4 children from Trendle Class, Silas, Ruth, Millie and Max took part in the Inter Multi Skills Competition at Dorchester Middle School on Tuesday morning. They started off with a pep talk from Mr Dailey and then went and competed in 6 activities, these included how many times could they bounce a ball on a spot, moving 10 objects from hoop to hoop, throwing bean bags into a bucket, rolling a gym ball across the hall, stepping across a ladder and how many times could they fall and get up on a soft mat. We challenged local DASP schools using their skills and determination, finishing 5th out of 7 (only 15 points from 3rd place though!) Finally they played some team games led by the DMS Sports Leaders which was very noisy but hugely entertaining! They did the school and themselves proud and all of them had massive smiles on their faces at the end. A massive thank you to Mrs Horsington who kindly transported the children to and from School.

  • Mr Vann is Collectively Considering...

    Sat 09 Nov 2013
‘The secret killer of innovation is shame. You can’t measure it, but it is there.  That deep fear we all have of being wrong, of being belittled and of feeling less than, is what stops us taking the very risks required to move our organisations forward.’

    Brene Brown.
  • Greek Week

    Sat 26 Oct 2013
We will be having a ‘Greek’ week on our return from Half Term.   The children will be cooking and tasting Greek Food, studying Myths and Fables, learning Greek dancing, comparing Ancient to Modern Greece, undertaking Greek art and crafts and having their own Olympic games.

Please can all children dress up as Ancient Greeks on Tuesday 5th November please – in tunics and Laurel wreaths!
  • Extreme Reading Challenge (ROAR)

    Sat 26 Oct 2013
We are always thinking of ways to inspire and encourage the children to improve and develop their reading skills.  Linked to this, at half term, we are setting an Extreme Reading Challenge for the children and parents in order to Raise Our Attainment in Reading (ROAR)!

We would like to see who can find the most unusual and daring place to carry out their reading.  To record these adventurous moments, we are sending the children home with two recording sheets.  There is a space on them for a photo and then we would love to know the title of the book, and why you chose this particular place.

We look forward to sharing your experiences, which we will display on our ROAR board in the corridor for everyone to view.
  • FA Football Skills

    Fri 18 Oct 2013
    FA football

The children have thoroughly enjoyed and embraced these last 6 weeks of football sessions with the FA’s Andy Harris. They have learnt which different parts of the foot you can kick a ball with, dribbling, how to dodge a defender and learnt when to kick the ball ahead of you when there is space. They have visited Dinosaur Island, Football Mountain and have even been into space where they were astronauts visiting planets in their spaceships. Both Mrs Price and Miss Nottley have seen the children getting more confident each week, working co-operatively with each other and communicating their different and inventive ideas as the weeks progressed. We were proud of both their behaviour and willing to learn attitude, they really are a credit to our School. Thank you to all the parents who came to the workshop and watched the children. Also a huge thank you to Andy, even the children who said at the start they didn’t want to play football ended up running around with huge smiles on their faces, you inspired them all!

  • Dance Genius!

    Fri 18 Oct 2013
    Cerne Abbas Dance Class

Mrs Price is very excited about her new “Dance Crew” she said she was totally overwhelmed with how popular it was and that there were children from all ages. This half term they have been eager,  full of energy and have all joined in to learn the Cha Cha Slide routine. They always start with a vigorous warm up then progress on to learning specific moves like the “Cha Cha”, “Hands on knees” and “Charlie Brown” actions. They have learnt how to work in a team by being co-operative with each other and showing excellent courteous behaviour. This culminated in performing for the whole School and teachers in what can only be described as a dance masterpiece, with many spectators joining in, especially reception and everyone had a smile on their face.
Mrs Price and her growing crew will now be working on a different routine for next term .......So watch this space!!
