Ultimate Dodgeball!
Thu 30 Mar 2017Today all the children participated in a sponsored Ultimate Dodgeball festival for British Heart Foundation Charity, they all had a fantastic time and everyone displayed all the 7 C's to make this a wonderful day!
Please keep collecting over Easter if you haven't already handed in your form. these will be due in the first Friday of next term!

Kidsmeet
Wed 29 Mar 20176 children had a wonderful day experimenting and showing other children ICT apps and internet based games today at Thomas Hardye School in Dorchester. We took along our tablets and were very confident in showing others how to use Scratch Jnr, we showed them how to create scenes with different characters and props and how we used coding to get them to move.
We also had a go at Minecraft, animation, the green screen (which was great fun), heard the electric guitar (brilliant rendition of Prince's Purple Rain) and learnt about Drones.
They were shown Scratch, Kahoot, Makey Makey Magic Tatts, Book creator, BBC Dancemat, Class Dosho and Animate it from the other first schools.
It was a fantastic day of learning and the children showed all our 7 C's throughout the day! Thank you also to Mrs Emm for coming with us.

Maths Day!

A huge thank you to all the parents and grandparents who came to support our Maths Day today! We were really delighted by the number of people who attended and supported us. We hope that everyone who joined us enjoyed it and had fun sharing a love of Maths with their children. Another big thank you goes to the school council members who helped me plan today as well as helped me serve the breakfast today with the lovely Mrs Edwards and Mrs Moore too! I was so proud of the school council today, they were all of our 7 C values and wowed me with their Maths knowledge of money! They have all made lots of progress since being in Reception! It was wonderful to see this and for them to be enjoying handling money and learning with it. One last thank you goes to all our wonderful staff members who helped make today possible - everyone helped to prepare it and make it a success!
My feedback from the children made today completely worth it, they told me in worship at the end of the day that they had all loved the day. Everyone enjoyed different parts of the day the most, however I think the 'Maths Café' breakfast and the 'Maths Scavenger Hunt' were perhaps the top favourites! I asked for some 'Growing Greens' for next year which were to have more space for buying the croissants and drinks (Fair point - the corridor was plan B after the rain did not stop and the canopy was filling with water!!!) and that we should have done more Maths in the afternoon! (We did art with a Maths focus but will have to make it even more clear next year!)
Incase you wanted to know what we got up to during Maths day...
We started the day with our Maths Café and Maths quizzes on the tables, followed by 'Maths Show and Tell' where the children taught their families a Maths skill. Once our families had left we took it in turns to do a 'Maths Scavenger Hunt' around the school in our colour teams. We had to answer a Maths challenge question and then solve a riddle to tell us the location of the next challenge! It was great fun and lovely to see all of the older children being co-operative and supportive to the younger children. When not doing the Scavenger Hunt, the teams played lots of fun Maths games in the classrooms.
After playtime we all went back to our own classes, Giant and Trendle classes made their own Maths games which was a big success! Abbey Class did some problem solving around profit - linked to our café. Mr Mitchum told me there was some super co-operative and considerate learning going on as this was very challenging learning!
After lunch we had a creative afternoon learning about artists such as Kandinsky and Fibonacci, using shapes - circles in particular - to create our own masterpieces! We have all created a small, square painting based on Kandinsky's concentric circles paintings which we will put together to create a Cerne Abbas School masterpiece!! Keep your eyes peeled for this to appear in the corridor soon!
We ended the day with an assembly to celebrate our learning from the afternoon and to share our favourite parts of the day.
We will count the money from today to work out how much we have made for our charity Heart Response and for some new Maths resources in school. Thank you again to everyone who joined in today and contributed by buying your breakfast or by making a donation.

Lent Lunch
Fri 17 Mar 2017On Friday 17th March Abbey Class will be attending a Lent Lunch at the church. They will be given soup, bread and cheese. Please can they bring a donation towards their lunch.

Super Hero Day!
Thu 09 Feb 2017School Council have asked to have a Super Hero Day on Thursday 9th February in aid of Heart Response our School charity. Our new Council members are George and Naomi from Giant Class. The School Council comprises of two members of each year group and they meet up every two weeks to discuss important school issues.
Be a Super Hero for the day in aid of Heart Response.

Safer Internet Day 2017

Today we have spent the afternoon celebrating Safer Internet Day 2017. We started the afternoon with a whole school assembly where we helped a penguin called 'Smartie' to learn how to be safe online. We had some great discussions about staying safe online and the children were all communicative and considerate, sharing their ideas and opinions. We all agreed that we love the internet and that it helps us to learn and have fun so we want to use it carefully to stay safe.
We all went to our own classrooms after the assembly and learnt more about being safe online. In Giant Class we watched some helpful videos and songs and then completed a dot to dot sheet of 'Sid the Superhero' who helps to keep children safe online. In Trendle Class children watched a film to show the importance of checking with adults before watching YouTube video online. In Abbey Class, children learnt about images online and the impressions they can give people, also how to react if you see an image online that upsets or scares you.
We took class selfies to show how fun technology can be and had lots of fun trying to get everyone in!
The afternoon went very well and we feel we now know a lot more about being safe online!

Non School Uniform Day
Fri 25 Nov 2016Non-Uniform Day Friday 25th November in exchange for items for the Heart Response Christmas Appeal.
This Christmas we would like to send the children in the Orphanage some gifts for Christmas. The charity will sort the gifts into shoeboxes for us. We're asking for unwrapped new items for boys and girls from age 4 - 13yrs if possible please...
We are having a NON-UNIFORM day on Friday 25th November in exchange for:-
- Hats, scarves & gloves
- Jumpers/Top (age 4 – 13)
- Socks/ Knickers/ Pants
- Pens, Pencils, Crayons, small notebook/colouring book
- Small Toy - cars, yo-yos, skipping ropes, balls (not cuddly toys please)
- Tooth Brushes/ Flannels (no soap or toothpaste)
- Hair Accessories
- Bracelets
- Stickers
Please could we have all donations by Friday 2nd December 2016, so we can have a wrapping day and send them off in time for Christmas.

Tag Rugby and Netball
Fri 11 Nov 2016This week we had both Tag Rugby and Netball Festivals, both days were filled with fantastic playing skills and all the children showed our 7 c's throughout both days! We would like to say how proud we are of all of them, out netballers also showed this as we joined St Osmund's in their remembrance service.
