Re-chalking the Cerne Giant
Fri 13 Sep 2019Re-chalking the Cerne Giant
The whole school, including Ducklings took part in this event last Friday, despite the inclement weather conditions (rain, wind, cold.) The National Trust had saved the eyes for us to complete and the children were able to take part in the whole process – digging out the old chalk, carrying it up the hill, cleaning the area, putting in new chalk and tamping it down.
We had a great morning on Giant Hill and a very windy picnic lunch. Thanks go to the National Trust for the lovely cake and drinks they provided – cups of tea and coffee were very much appreciated by the adults. Thank you to all the parents that joined us, your help was invaluable especially in negotiating the slopes up and down the hill. And final thanks to Sasha Constable and Jane Tearle for some amazing photos.

Mrs Cresswell's Romanian Trip
Sat 23 Feb 2019During half Term Mrs Cresswell went with the charity 'Heart Response', that our school supports, to Romania. She visited the orphanages, hospital, Romanian houses where the sick and elderly live and helped with preparing the food and teaching the children as part of the feeding programmes that go into the gypsy villages.
Before she went the children and families of Cerne Abbas First School donated pants, socks, vests and T-shirts which we posted out before the trip. The children at our school also drew pictures of themselves and wrote their names to introduce themselves to the Romanian children in a very poor gypsy village called Silivas. The parcels of clothes arrived and Mrs Cresswell was able to take them, with the team, to this village. She helped give the clothes to the children as well as give them the pictures that the children of Cerne Abbas had drawn of themselves. Mrs Cresswell also took a photograph of us to show the children and was then able to show the Romanian children which child had drawn which picture. They absolutely loved looking at the pictures and matching the drawing to the photograph of the child. In return they coloured pictures for us.
The visit was an amazing experience and very thought-provoking. The people in Romania were so welcoming and inspiring. It was a privilege to be part of and help the charity.

Mrs Cresswell is visiting Romania in the half term with the charity we support 'Heart Response'.
Tue 12 Feb 2019During half term Mrs Cresswell will go onto a mission trip to Romania to help the children in the Romanian orphanages and gypsy camps. We have collected warm underwear and socks this week to take to the children and we are also drawing pictures of ourselves to take across so that we can introduce ourselves to the Romanian children. This is one of the ways in which our vision and Christian values are lived out in the wider community and abroad. We want to be courageous advocates for change. Our focus is to actively serve and build strong collaborative partnerships with and make a difference to pupils, families, the local community and beyond. We look forward to seeing the pictures on her return. -

DTFC Football Festival
Thu 15 Nov 2018Today our year 4 Football team played on the new 4g pitch at DTFC, this was part of a new initiative set up by the football club to bring schools into their club, there were 8 other primary schools taking part and they played a mini league to start with, culminating in quarter, semi's and a final. We first played 4 games, losing 3-0, drawing 0-0, winning 3-1 and losing 3-0, highlight of these games was Seb's hat-trick in our 3 nil win!! We then progressed to play Prince of Wales in the Quarter finals, they proved to strong for us losing 3-1, with Molly scoring our goal this time. We then watched the semi' and final from the stand before the medal ceremony. Everyone received a medal for participating and it was a joy to see so many smiles on the childrens faces. We were both very proud of our team, every single one played every minute as we had no subs so their effort was faultless and they showed our 7 C values during the festival.
Well done Cerne Abbas Football Team
Charlie, Alex, Seb, Isaac, Molly, Summer and Penny
Please look out for news on Mascot day at the football club.
