Nursery Rhyme Challenge! 13.12.19

Nursery Rhyme Challenge! 13.12.19

On Thursday we hosted our first ever Nursery Rhyme Challenge performance! This term the children have been busy learning the words and actions to 13 known nursery rhymes in preparation for a sponsored group performance to family and friends!

With regret lots of our children couldn’t partake in the challenge this week due to illness, however the children who participated were confident taking on extra roles and put on a fantastic performance for us all on the day! Well done to everyone! You were all very confident singing and performing to a crowd, we were very proud!

There is a huge amount of research proving that children’s early knowledge and experience of nursery rhymes significantly impacts their journey to becoming a confident reader. Experts in literacy and child development have found that if children know eight nursery rhymes by heart by the time they are four years old, they’re usually among the best readers by the time they are eight.

We are so pleased that our first Rhyme Challenge was such a success, we hope it will positively impact the children’s early literacy skills and enable them to embark on their journey as a reader with momentum and excitement! Thank you all for your contributions and for coming to support us! We are planning to provide further opportunities for children to develop their confidence performing to an audience in upcoming terms.

Have a restful weekend! We look forward to seeing you all for our penultimate week of Christmas fun!
