Week 7 Topic Exposure 21.10.16

aWeek 7 Topic Exposure Week

This first half term has been incredible for everyone involved. All of the children have adapted to the learning brilliantly and it is great to see everyone getting along so nicely. Long may it continue :)

We have been carrying on writing our newspaper reports in Literacy. It might be that we got quite a lot of future journalists in Abbey class! In maths we have been carrying out some tests to assess their learning over the course of the first half term. This culminated in undertaking a smarties investigation which all of the children enjoyed tremendously. Usually the children do not need an incentive to learn, but you could sense the difference in their enthusiasm when they found out they could eat them. In terms of other subjects, the children have been learning all about the skeletal system in Science, finished their Celtic informational booklets in Topic and carried on with Tag Rugby in PE. I would also like to say a big well done to everyone in the class for their attitude towards the spellings and times tables. The results have been incredible and with a long time to go till the end of the academic year, the progress is exceptional.

In terms of 'home learning' over the half term, there is nothing officially set. However, I would strongly advise that you carry on reading and writing as much as possible. Obviously the children have got their home reading books but I strongly advise to read a wide range of genres and range of books. The benefits include increased concentration, expanded vocabulary, improved spellings, creative imaginations, tranquillity and most important, knowledge :) I would also suggest to have a focus for writing. Whether this may be writing a letter to somebody, writing a story, creating a newspaper... Write about whatever you enjoy : )

Mathletics will be up and running after half term as well. All of the children have got their log ins but any problems come and see me.

I would also like to say a big thank you to all of the parents who came to the consultations this week. It was great getting to meet you all. Anything I can help you with do not hesitate to come speak to me : )

Have a fantastic half term. I hope it is enjoyable whatever you get up to. I am looking forward to seeing what everyone gets up to when we return on Tuesday 1st November.

Mr Mitchem :)
