Our Vision Reflective Day
Wed 29 Nov 2023We spent a day off timetable looking in detail about how our vision 'to be the best we can be' impacts our lives and the lives of the people around us. At the start of the day teachers shared how they tried to be the best they could be in the various areas of their lives. Miss Stephens explained how she thought this was an ongoing daily way of thinking that we find easier on some days than others and Miss Trent talked about how she tried to be the best eldest sister that she could be. The children then visited each class in the mixed aged teams and thought more deeply about this. One class looked at how Ruth, a heroine from the the bible, tried to be the best she could be, another class thought about this through a windows, mirrors, doors perspective. We see things happening in our world (windows), it makes us feel a certain way (mirrors) and then we take action as a result (doors). Finally another session was about how we are all wonderfully made and beautifully unique. The day ended with sharing our thoughts and recording these in our Reflective diaries.

A visit about the Muslim faith
Mon 16 Oct 2023We had a visit from Sherene who shared about her faith and what it meant to be a Muslim. She told us about how they pray 5 times a day and how they fast during Ramadan. One child asked what was her favourite thing about being a Muslim and she said that it was prayer. Being able to pray to God (who they call Allah) and know that he will help you in all situations. She showed us the clothes that they wear and how every Muslim would like to travel to Mecca on a Pilgrimage to Kaaba. We were very interested to find out about many Muslim women have had a huge impact on History. It was Muslim women who were responsible for the foundation of the world's first library and world's first hospital. You will also have heard of the Nadiya Hussain, the Bake Off champion and Dalilah Muhammed the Olympic champion. It was such an engaging talk. Thank you Sherene.

Hopes and Dreams Week.
Fri 13 Oct 2023This week, at school, we have had many visitors talking to the children about their, occupations. We never think children are too young to consider their options for the future. We have had such a variety of visitors including an electrical engineer, entrepreneur, railway worker, naval aviator, bridal shop owner, seamstress, fire fighter, police, cattery owner and personal trainer. What a lot of inspiration for our children! Thank you to everyone who joined us.

The children loved it too and a few expressed how much pleasure it had given them to bring the elderly joy through our singing (one of our school values).

Our Reflective Day - The Lord's Prayer
Mon 17 Jul 2023Today we had a day off timetable where we found out the meaning behind the Lord's Prayer and also learnt to recite it. In Miss Stephen's class the children listened to different versions of the Lord's Prayer being sung. They created art work as they listened quietly and reflected on it. They learnt the prayer using actions.
In Trendle Class they drew picture on 'our daily bread' of what God has provided for us and then ate it. They also thought about 'forgive us our sins' and wrote on a tissue paper person something we needed to forgive someone for and the put it in water and watched it fade anyway. This is what happens when we forgive people or when God forgives us. It makes us feel better. Finally Abbey class enjoyed playing fun games to help them remember the prayer.

School and Church Fete
Mon 03 Jul 2023Being part of our community is golden thread for our curriculum here at Cerne Abbas CE VC First School. On Saturday the church, village and school communities joined together to run the fete. Our choir at school called 'The Hummingbirds' sang 3 songs at the start of the afternoon. I was very proud of them, particularly one girl who showed our value of courage by singing a solo even though she was very nervous. Well done to everyone who sang you were the stars of the fete on Saturday. Please enjoy the pictures.

Making Bug Homes in the Cerne Abbas Wildlife Garden
Wed 28 Jun 2023The whole school helped to create bug homes in the Cerne Abbas Wildlife Garden this week. Our work at Hillfield Friary helped to prepare us to do this. Maddie's mum and dad helped Giant and Ducklings to make a log pile, Trendle Class to make a bug hotel and Abbey Class to make bee homes. Absolutely everything we used was donated or recycled - even the tin cans for the bee houses were from the cafe on Maddie's farm and the bamboo was grown in their garden! The roof tiles for the bug hotel were recycled from Reggie’s dad (thank you), the straw was grown on a farm in Godmanstone and the wood was a willow tree that came down Maddie's farm in a storm!
Thank you to Heather and Roy who spent the day with our children creating these homes for the insects to enjoy.

Whole School Muddy Trip
Sat 24 Jun 2023We had an AMAZING trip to Dorset Water Park Mud Trail on Thursday. The whole school travelled to Corfe and experienced the fun and challenge of the mud trail. The children and staff absolutely loved it and it was lovely to see the children demonstrating our values of friendship and courage as they helped and encouraged one another and tried new challenges even if they felt nervous. There were smiles and laughter all around. I was very proud of everyone. Enjoy the pictures.
A positive, purposeful and enthusiastic atmosphere
